About My Achalasia | Joonya Boonya
Achalasia is a disorder of motility of the lower esophageal or cardiac sphincter that I have been living with for the past last years now. I've done a video about it before a few years ago, but I figured i'd do an updated video and share how i'm doing 10 years later.

    I was diagnosed with achalasia in 2005 after several years of swallowing issues. I had the HM with fundoplication at that time and it has been so much better since. Still need water to help get anything down but so much better than before the surgery. Seems mostly stable for the past few years but always conscious about foods potentially getting stuck. It never gets normal but livable.

    Thank you guys for sharing honestly I've been in pain for years now and I recently had a strep throat I believe I had COVID and didn't know now I'm dealing with flu symptoms such as nausea and body aches so having a disease that makes all of that worst is heartbreaking. I'm currently waiting on a answer on what the best option my insurance is delaying the process but I trust God we're suffering in science. Thank you thank you 💗

    hello sir! My dad is suffering from achalasia and us, living in the Philippines is having a hard time to find a suitable doctor to cure my father's illness. my dad's age is 60 and was already advice for surgery but with his condition (I'm talking about his strength cos for now I don't think he can handle the surgery cos of too much weight loss). Now he stays at home to recover and regain his strength. he only eats food that won't trigger his esophagus. I badly want to communicate, and know more about achalasia sir. that disease is rare in our country and only few had them.

    Thanks for sharing. Ive had some of the same symptoms as you. Ive have dealt w/Achalasia since 2005, I went from 220 to 155lbs.(I was happi, but sick), I had surgery 2 open to lower sprincter(by having two of my ribs cut in my back), but now 17yrs. Later, in 2022, I have to have surgery, again on the same area(orally, this time) cause my lower esophageal is shaped like a upside down, Birds 🐦 beck, again. 🤦🏾‍♀️😩😵‍💫

    Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm also living with Achalasia. I am 53 years now and was diagnosed that I had Achalasia 4 years ago at Mayo Clinic in South Africa .Since then , I haven't had any Surgery at all but I continue fighting for my life each and every day . My wife and children have all been so supportive during this journey. What I've learnt as an Achalasia warrior is that we must never give up. Self discipline and confidence are key to us warriors, because every breakfast time, lunch time and supper times are like war zones. Eating gluten free foods is also key to us Achalasia patients and one other thing I've mastered is to always stand up whenever I'm eating . Since my LES is not functioning, I've to have 2 litres bottle of liquid preferably non carbonated to push my food into the stomach. I'm still try to save some money so that I will go for an operational a cost of R40000 approximately equivalent to $2500. I still believe that soon I will get this amount and do the operation .

      @joonyaboonya 2 роки тому

      Yeah, I completely understand, when I first started experiencing this thing, it was terrifying, but now that you know what's going on you'll be able to start moving forward. Good news is there's ways to treat Achalasia and there is so much more information out there. It's possible to live a normal life eating and swallowing, I'm proof of that.

    • @joonyaboonya

      For me, I chose the Heller Myotomy surgery and over 10 years later I'm a healthy man, who probably should cut down on the Lil Debbie's [haha!] the point is I'm happy and swallowing with the support of water. I highly recommend looking into Achalasia support groups like the one I'm in on Facebook that is very active. It's helpful being able to interact with people that know exactly what you're going through. Take care and if you have any questions, I'm here to answer to the best of my knowledge.

    Goodness me, your description of the surgery was not accurate in any way. I think you had HM rather than POEM... very different operations. Eat healthy is so important. I wish I had eaten healthily earlier...Donuts are definitely a no-no. Water works for me, but tea needs water too.

    how are you now. I have chronic tmj that latter effected my vison and the symptoms are so bad. Now that I finally started my orthotic I am feeling my food go down slow. Of course 4 months into my tmj.I pushed on my throat. Then latter that night when I was almost done eating something crunched. Now its getting looser and its greater when it happens. I don't no if its causing my food to go down to slow but it sucks.

    So in other words the surgery did nothing to solve your problems. Ive had trouble swallowing for about 10 years im 42 now same story as you anxiety and stress aggravate it worse i also feel it is partly due to spine and nerve compression somehow

    • @joonyaboonya
      @joonyaboonya 3 роки тому

      The surgery allowed me swallow again when before I couldn't swallow anything but spit. It's not a perfect or normal swallow because the surgery isn't a cure for Achalasia but for me and my Achalasia type it's been an effective work around.

    I'm with ya! Lost 100 lbs before they finally decided that maybe it wasn't GERD after all! I had the surgery with the stomach wrap as well. No acid reflux.. thank goodness, but I do get the random chest pains. Thanks for sharing THAT bit of info, I thought there was something else going on! My big thing I can't eat is bread. That gets stuck every time I try, even if I have something to drink with it. There are a few other foods in the no eat zone, but bread is at the very top of my list. It is imperative to have something to drink when eating. I find warm tea works best. I was told that the Heller Myotomy was not 100 percent permanent and the achalasia could possibly come back. I REALLY hope that's not the case. I do NOT want to do another barium swallow for as long as I live. And lets not EVEN talk about the swallow test with the tube down the nose. Nope.. uh uh.. no thank you!
